Amman, 24 June 2026 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded today a visit to London, where he met with Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer, National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, as well as other senior UK officials, members of the diplomatic community and experts.
Discussions focused on recent developments in Yemen and the region, and the prospects for advancing an inclusive, internationally-supported Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices as the only viable way to achieve long-term stability in the country, as well as assurances for the region, including maritime security.
The Envoy briefed on the UN’s work, including next steps on the implementation of the UN-mediated agreement to release over 1,600 conflict-related detainees, meetings held within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee to support de-escalation, as well as ongoing efforts to address key economic issues.
The Special Envoy expressed his deep appreciation for the United Kingdom’s continued support for the UN-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Yemen that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
