UN Envoy for Yemen concludes meetings in Oman

22 April 2026 – As part of his continuing regional engagements, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded today a visit to Muscat, where he met with senior Omani officials to discuss the way forward for Yemen’s peace process amid evolving regional dynamics. The Special Envoy highlighted Oman’s crucial role in supporting dialogue and underscored the importance of regional support for the UN mediation process.

The Special Envoy also met with Mohamed Abdel Salam, Ansar Allah’s Chief Negotiator, with whom he discussed the way forward for the mediation process. Grundberg also provided an update on the ongoing negotiations in Amman over the release of conflict-related detainees, emphasizing the urgent need to achieve a breakthrough to bring relief to hundreds of Yemeni families.

In addition, the Special Envoy, together with the UN official leading on the issue of detentions of UN personnel, Muin Shreim, raised the continued arbitrary detention of 73 UN personnel, emphasizing that this remains a priority for the United Nations and calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
