Background
In October 2024, OSESGY initiated a series of political dialogues with Yemeni political parties, components, civil society actors, and prominent experts, ensuring the meaningful participation of women and youth. These dialogues aim to generate ideas for both immediate and long-term priorities across the political, security, and economic tracks, and to explore confidence-building measures that support OSESGY’s mediation efforts.
This initiative comes against the backdrop of evolving dynamics on the ground and regional escalation which are affecting the chances for peace in Yemen. The dialogues also review these evolving dynamics, gathering insights to shape a comprehensive de-escalation strategy for Yemen. The dialogues will continue in 2025, fostering a platform for candid exchanges on identifying pathways to advance the commitments of the parties to the conflict and developing practical solutions for an inclusive and sustainable peace process that addresses the needs of all Yemenis. Each delegation is encouraged to include experts in political, economic, and security fields, providing practical recommendations to advance these key tracks. OSESGY has urged all participants to ensure women’s representation and active involvement in every dialogue and roundtable discussion.
Facilitated by senior OSESGY representatives, sessions are held in Amman, Jordan, and Yemen, providing a neutral platform for candid exchanges.
The ongoing military hostilities, complex regional dynamics, escalatory and divisive rhetoric and threats, such as arbitrary detentions and intimidation, have further narrowed the space for meaningful engagement and peacebuilding. Yemeni political parties have called for enhanced democratic political practices, while civil society actors focus on addressing urgent humanitarian needs and promoting social cohesion. OSESGY remains committed to facilitating these dialogues and assisting Yemenis in their pursuit of a lasting peace.
General updates on the consultations are published regularly on OSESGY’s website and social media.
In parallel to the consultations, the Special Envoy continues to explore every avenue for de-escalation by engaging with the parties to the conflict, regional and international actors on advancing the commitments made towards an intra-Yemeni peace process.
