19 March 2004 - The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1471 (2003) of 28 March 2003 and General Assembly resolutions 58/27 A and B of 5 December 2003. It covers the period since the previous report, dated 30 December 2003 (S/2003/1212). During this period, the Security Council also received an oral briefing on 15 January which was recorded in the Council’s verbatim records (see S/PV.4893). 30 December 2003 - The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1471 (2003) of 28 March 2003, by which the Council decided to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for one year. The report describes developments in Afghanistan since my report dated 23 July 2003 (A/57/850-S/2003/754 and Corr.1). During that period, the Security Council received oral briefings on 13 August and 24 October; the latter has been published in the Council’s verbatim records (see S/PV.4848). The Council also received the report of its own mission, which visited the region from 31 October to 7 November
(S/2003/1074). In addition, my report to the General Assembly of 3 December 2003 (A/58/616) described the work of the Transitional Administration to implement the Bonn Agreement, the activities of the United Nations and key political and humanitarian developments in Afghanistan from July 2002 to November 2003. Matters covered in those briefings and reports will not be repeated in the present report, except in summary form. Full report

1. Paragraph 22
The second sentence of the paragraph should read On 23 June 2003, two Afghan soldiers accompanying the coalition were wounded in a clash with the forces of Amanullah Khan.

The fourth sentence of the paragraph should read
The attempted assassination early in June of Aziz Ludin, rumoured to have been selected by the Government as Governor of Herat, was of particular concern.

2. Paragraph 24, line 12
The sixth sentence of the paragraph should read Early in May, 60 districts out of 165 in the south and south-east were considered high- to medium-risk areas.
