The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg met from 10 to 12 February, in Riyadh, with the newly appointed Prime Minister, Shaya Al-Zindani, members of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and other Yemeni officials, the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, as well as representatives of the permanent five members of the United Nations Security Council.
During his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Special Envoy discussed Yemen’s current political, economic, and security landscape. He underscored the importance of building on the formation of the new cabinet to translate this momentum into political progress that would bring tangible benefits to the Yemeni population.
In his broader engagements, the Special Envoy emphasized the need for regional unity and sustained international engagement to support de-escalation and help create an environment conducive to a negotiated political settlement.
The Special Envoy reaffirmed his continued engagement with Yemeni, regional, and international stakeholders to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing prospects for an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process.
Later today, the Envoy will brief via teleconference the UN Security Council, as part of the monthly Council's sessions on the situation in Yemen.
