2nd African Climate Summit: Young people from the Congo Basin emphasise the importance of resilience in the face of the climate crisis

UNOCA Climate Security Adviser Mabaye Dia took part in the 2nd African Climate Summit, which was held from 8 to 10 September 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On this occasion, young people from the Congo Basin adopted and published a strong Declaration reaffirming their commitment to addressing the interrelated challenges of climate change, peace and security. Coming from one of the most ecologically important regions in the world, these young people denounce the direct impact of environmental upheavals on their daily lives: malnutrition, school dropouts, violence and trauma. They stress the urgent need to strengthen the resilience of communities in the face of a climate crisis that exacerbates inequalities and fuels social tensions.
