UNPOS
United Nations Political Office for Somalia

Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Security Sector Assessment Workshop held in Naivasha, Kenya

UNPOS organised a Security Sector Assessment workshop in Naivasha (Kenya) from 7 to 12 October 2009 to review and finalize information gathering analysis and mapping and to identify gaps and define policy recommendations for the Joint Security Committee (JSC). Additionally, the workshop was designed to begin the planning for transitional security arrangements and to develop clear and coherent structures, roles and responsibilities for the JSC in order to advance the Somali stabilisation process.
