SRSG chairs a meeting of the JSC

A meeting of the Joint Security Committee (JSC) held on 12 October 2009 and chaired by the SRSG discussed the initial findings and recommendations of the Security Assessment Team and reviewed issues such as the training of the Somali security forces, the payment of police and the status of the pledges made following the Brussels meeting in support of the Somali security institutions. The SRSG highlighted the key priorities and the mutual responsibilities of the Somalis and their partners and urged them to play an active and comprehensive role in the formation of credible security institutions. He further called on the "friends" of Somali to exercise patience during this critical phase of the implementation of the Djibouti Agreement, while imploring the Somali leadership to renew its commitment to working more closely together.
