Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

SRSG Mahiga expresses dismay over the murder of Somali Journalist

Mogadishu, 24 May 2012 – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga, is dismayed to learn of the brutal murder of a Somali journalist today in Mogadishu. Shabelle Radio broadcaster Ahmed Addow Anshuur was gunned down and killed in Mogadishu on Thursday. He was the sixth journalist to be assassinated in Somalia this year.
