Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Nairobi, 22 June 2012 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Dr. Augustine Mahiga, welcomes the signing of the Joint Communiqué of the Consultative Meeting of the Signatories of the Process for Ending the Transition by all signatories to the roadmap this afternoon in Nairobi.
