The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes all mediation efforts by Libyan stakeholders to address the dispute over the constitutional judiciary, including the formation of a mediation committee composed of renowned Libyan legal experts. The committee seeks to present options that will ensure the continuity of constitutional oversight and safeguard the judiciary’s essential role as a cornerstone of the Libyan state. It is composed of retired Judge Hussein Al-Buaishi, Professor Al-Koni Abboudah, retired Judge Al-Mabrouk Al-Fakhri, and lawyer Essam El-Mawi, all of whom possess decades of distinguished service within Libya’s judicial and legal systems. At the request of several national institutions, UNSMIL commits to support the committee in their work and their efforts to resolve this dispute recognizing the need to preserve the unity, independence and integrity of the Libyan judicial system UNSMIL underscores the importance of this initiative to help preserve the unity of the judiciary and ensure consistency in the judicial practice and rulings throughout Libya, which is of crucial significance for all aspects of the lives of Libyan citizens. The mission calls on all relevant stakeholders to engage constructively with the mediation committee to ensure the success of its efforts.
