Kuwait- The Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General welcomes the statement by the President of the Security Council, which reaffirms full commitment to UNSCR 2216, other relevant Security Council decisions, the GCC Initiative and the National Dialogue outcomes.

The delegations met in plenary session today during which both parties highlighted the importance of continuing constructive dialogue in order to reach a comprehensive, peaceful solution and commended the positive atmosphere that dominated the talks today. The Special Envoy stated that “today’s session was positive. It was clear to me that the parties are committed to continuing discussions towards a comprehensive political solution, and to engaging with the points in the agenda agreed upon previously. I presented a general framework for the coming period, which is security, economic and political components, to the parties. This framework was developed in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and based on what was agreed in Biel, December 2015. We expect to hold further deliberations on the components of the framework in the coming days.”
