UN Special Envoy concludes visit to Riyadh
Amman,15 October 2025- The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded today a visit to Riyadh, where he met with the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Zaabi, as well as ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5) and other members of the international diplomatic community.
Grundberg noted that the recently brokered ceasefire in Gaza opens a window of opportunity to reinforce regional stability, renew momentum toward peace in Yemen and create conditions that support sustained de-escalation and advance an inclusive political process. He stressed the need to make use of this opportunity through a coordinated approach.
Across all his meetings, the Special Envoy discussed the continued detention by Ansar Allah of UN, diplomatic, and NGO personnel, stressing that such actions obstruct humanitarian operations and hinder peace efforts. He underscored that the safety and security of all humanitarian workers is a high priority for the United Nations, must be guaranteed, and called for the unconditional and immediate release of all detained personnel.
