13 Jan 2025 - Amman, 13 January 2025 - UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg concluded today a visit to Iran’s capital Tehran, during which the resumption of a Yemeni-owned political process under the auspices of the United Nations was in focus. In Tehran, the Envoy met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and other senior Iranian officials. -

He held discussions with senior political and military officials to renew engagement on the political process, focusing on addressing challenges and exploring possibilities for advancing peace within the region’s complex context.

Israeli airstrikes today on Sana’a International Airport, the Red Sea ports and power stations in Yemen are especially alarming. The airstrikes reportedly resulted in numerous casualties including at least three killed and dozens more injured.

18 Dec 2024 - A three-day meeting between the Office of the Special Envoy for Yemen and representatives from the Government of Yemen in the Military Coordination Committee took place last week in Amman to discuss the planning and management of ceasefires and transitional security arrangements.

06 Dec 2024 - The Secretary-General renews his call for the immediate and unconditional release of the humanitarian personnel arbitrarily detained by the Houthis. It has been six months since the detention of more than 50 personnel from the United Nations, international and national non-governmental organizations, civil society and diplomatic missions, in addition to four other UN personnel detained since 2021 and 2023.
