UN Special Envoy for Yemen concludes visit to Riyadh
Amman, 6 May 2025 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded today a visit to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he met with the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shayea Al-Zindani, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem al-Budaiwi as well as with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Mohamed al-Jaber and members of the diplomatic community, including with the ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5).
In the context of an escalatory trajectory in Yemen and the region, Grundberg briefed counterparts on his latest engagements with all parties, reiterating calls for de-escalation and restraint and a refocus on efforts that advance a Yemeni-owned political process and provide credible assurances for the region and the international community.
During his meeting with Minister Al-Zindani, Special Envoy Grundberg extended his congratulations on the appointment of Yemen’s Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Braik, and wished former Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak continued success, acknowledging his valuable contributions during a particularly challenging period for Yemen.
In his meeting with the group of P5 ambassadors, Grundberg stressed the importance of a unified international approach to support efforts toward a peaceful negotiated resolution in Yemen.
