  • 12 Apr 2020 - 11 April 2020 - On 23 March, the Secretary-General launched an appeal for an immediate Global Ceasefire, urging all warring parties to pull back from hostilities, put aside mistrust and animosity, and silence their guns. Many parties have responded positively to the Secretary-General’s appeal, but more needs to be done to translate these words into actions.
  • 10 Apr 2020 - The Members of the Security Council endorsed the Secretary-General’s call of 25 March for those fighting in Yemen to immediately cease hostilities, focus on reaching a negotiated political settlement, and to do everything possible to counter an outbreak of COVID-19.
  • 10 Apr 2020 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, shared earlier today with the Government of Yemen and Ansar Allah the UN’s revised proposals for agreements on 1) nation-wide ceasefire 2) key economic and humanitarian measures to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, build confidence between the parties and support Yemen’s ability to respond to the crisis of COVID-19, and 3) the urgent resumption of the political process.

    09 Apr 2020 -   I welcome the announcement by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the “Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen”, of a unilateral ceasefire in Yemen. This can help to advance efforts towards peace as well as the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    08 Apr 2020 - Amman, 8 April 2019 - The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, welcomes the announcement by the Joint Forces Command of a two-week unilateral ceasefire covering all ground, maritime and air operations in Yemen starting 9 April. The announcement comes in support of the UN’s peace process and the UN Secretary-General’s call for a nationwide ceasefire in order to avert the grave risks of a COVID-19 outbreak.
  • 02 Apr 2020 - Amman, 2 April 2020 - The Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen is engaging the parties on reaching agreements on a nationwide ceasefire, humanitarian and economic measures to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people, and the urgent resumption of the political process aimed at comprehensively ending the war. This process further aims to foster joint efforts to counter the threat of COVID-19.

    31 Mar 2020 - Amman, 31 March 2020 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, met with the Yemeni women’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) today in a video conference over the internet. TAG is a network of Yemeni women formed in 2018 by the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) from diverse backgrounds, including economics, human rights, governance, as well as women with political party affiliation.
