09 Aug 2018 - Amman 09 August 2018 - I am deeply shocked by the appalling tragedy that claimed so many innocent lives today in Saada including children under the age of 15. My heart goes out to the parents of those who were killed. This should urge us all to exert more efforts to end the conflict through an inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue.

02 Aug 2018 - Madam President, Members of this Council, We meet at an important time. It has been two years – two years - too long since the Yemeni people had the chance for a negotiated end to this war.  Today, therefore, as we meet we have the chance to weigh the opportunities for peace. And I hope to begin the difficult and uncertain journey away from war.

21 Jun 2018 - Amman 21 June 2018 - I will continue my consultations with all parties to avoid further military escalation in Hudaydah, which I fear would have severe political and humanitarian consequences. My priority now is to avoid a military confrontation in Hudaydah and to swiftly return to political negotiations.
  • 13 Jun 2018 - I am extremely concerned about the military developments in Hudaydah. Further military escalation will have serious consequences on the dire humanitarian situation in the country and will have an impact on my efforts to resume political negotiations to reach an inclusive political settlement to the conflict in Yemen. I cannot overemphasize that there is no military solution to the conflict.

I had very productive meetings with senior leaders of Ansarallah and the General People’s Congress on my vision for the peace process which I will discuss with the Security Council later this month. I am encouraged by the reactions I received during this trip and during my meetings with the Government of Yemen and regional players over the last few weeks.
