27 Feb 2020 - Yemen experienced one of the quietest periods of the conflict particularly in the air war.
But recent military escalations since then have demonstrated the exceptional vulnerability of such gains that were made in the absence, in our view, of a political process to give them meaning and direction.
Over the past month and a half, in particular, the military situation has grown more dire.
Both sides have announced expansive military goals and exchanged fierce rhetoric.
25 Feb 2020 - The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) is hosting a consultative meeting with a group of Yemeni public and political figures in Amman, Jordan, on 26-27 February 2020.
16 Feb 2020 - Delegates representing the parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed on a detailed plan to complete the first official large-scale exchange of prisoners since the beginning of the conflict. This is a step towards the fulfillment of the parties’ commitment to the phased release of all conflict-related detainees according to the Stockholm Agreement.
03 Feb 2020 - Sana’a, Amman – 3 February 2019 — The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande and the World Health Organization Representative for Yemen, Altaf Musani welcomed today the launch of the medical air bridge operation that brought the first group of Yemeni patients in need of specialized medical assistance from Yemen to Jordan.
22 Jan 2020 - Amman, 22 January 2020 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, is deeply alarmed by the latest round of violence in Yemen which resulted in the death of many innocent civilians.
Mr. Griffiths has been in contact with the parties reiterating his call for de-escalation.
19 Jan 2020 - Amman, 19 January 2020 – The Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths condemns the escalation of military activities in Sana’a, Sa’dah and Marib governorates where airstrikes, missiles and ground attacks reportedly took place. Of particular concern is the aerial attack that hit reportedly the Al-Estiqbal military camp in Marib city killing by first counts at least 80 soldiers.
28 Nov 2019 - The Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, welcomes the unilateral release of 128 Yemeni detainees by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “I am grateful to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this move. This, together with other measures to de-escalate violence are proof of the parties’ good will and interest to provide a conducive environment for peace-making.
