Special Envoy's Message on International Women's Day

As we mark the International Women's Day, we honor Yemen's women who, despite bearing the extraordinary weight of conflict and facing systematic threats and silencing, remain powerful agents of change. While all Yemenis shoulder the burden of war, women continue to overcome immense challenges — not as victims, but as essential architects of peace and stability in their nation.

Through our work on the political, security and economic files, my colleagues and I have had the privilege of engaging and working closely with many remarkable Yemeni women. That is why we remain firmly committed to keeping women, peace, and security at the heart of our efforts, paving a future for Yemen that is not only free from conflict but built on the principles of safety, dignity, and equality as rights for all.

From political leaders, technical experts, negotiators, human rights defenders, journalists and community activists—Yemeni women are not just essential for peace; they are the very foundation of any sustainable solution to the Yemeni conflict. We also recognize the struggles of women in rural communities and displacement camps, their resilience continues to hold the fabric of society together despite overwhelming challenges. Their voices must not only be heard but must actively shape the path toward Yemen’s peace.

On this occasion, I urge all decision-makers and parties to ensure that women can safely, equally and meaningfully participate in the political process, and continue their vital work and in building and sustaining their communities. My office and I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continue advocating for concrete actions that safeguard women's rights, and amplify their voices, and strengthen their role in shaping Yemen’s future.

To the women of Yemen: Your strength and courage inspire us. Your resilience gives hope to a nation. And your vision for peace and justice will help shape the future Yemen deserves. Today, we honor you.
