Statement attributable to the Spokesperson of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen
The Special Envoy is making good progress towards the production of a framework for negotiations as promised in his briefing to the UN Security Council in April. He plans to put that to the council in the first half of June.
In this, the Special Envoy is grateful for the continuing unhindered and prompt access he continues to enjoy with all the parties. He wishes to correct any impression that the postponement of his visit to Sana’a has in any way impeded his access to Ansar Allah leaders to better understand their own perspectives on his framework for negotiations.
As the Secretary-General said last week, we are all gravely concerned by the negative impact of the recent escalations of attacks on the political process. We continue to ask the parties to take urgent measures to de-escalate. The Special Envoy noted in his presentation to the UN Security Council in April the threat posed by military events. Whether these be from missiles or from air or ground attacks. This is a very real worry.
The Special Envoy will present his Framework to the Security Council in June. He looks forward to a formal relaunch of peace negotiations afterwards
