UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg visits Kuwait

Amman, 15 November 2021 – The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg visited today Kuwait where he met with Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah. 

Mr. Grundberg underlined the importance of regional and international consensus on the Yemen file to achieve progress and reach a negotiated settlement through peaceful dialogue. He thanked Kuwait for being a steadfast partner in the UN’s peacemaking efforts in Yemen. “Kuwait’s commitment to promote peaceful political dialogue remains vital in helping achieve sustainable peace in Yemen”, he said. 

Mr. Grundberg briefed the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister on his latest engagements with Yemeni and regional interlocutors and discussed latest developments in Yemen. He expressed his concern about the military operations in Yemen, particularly in Marib and around Hudaydah, and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation. He further emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and inclusive approach that addresses political, security and economic issues that concern all Yemenis.
