UN Special Envoy holds discussions in Riyadh

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, met with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al Alimi, and Vice President Uthman Mujalli in Riyadh. During the meeting, they discussed next steps towards reaching an agreement on measures to improve living conditions in Yemen, a sustainable ceasefire, and the resumption of a Yemeni-owned political process under UN auspices.


While in Riyadh, Grundberg met with the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohamed Al Jaber, other senior Saudi officials and the UAE Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Zaabi. The Special Envoy expressed his appreciation for the strong regional support to the UN’s mediation efforts. He discussed the latest progress toward an agreement and stressed the need for sustained, concerted regional support.


Grundberg also met with ambassadors of the five permanent members of the Security Council to discuss the need for continued international support for sustainable peace in Yemen. Special Envoy Grundberg stressed that this is a critical time and urged all involved to maintain an enabling environment for the continuation of constructive dialogue.
